Quirico P. Luga...

This blogsite is dedicated to restore a lost heritage... It is also a repository of documents, facts and other valuable information that aims to once and for all shed light about the real story behind the Luga Intestate Estate and about the Luga Heritage of Davao particularly of Quirico P. Luga in relation to the rest of the Luga Clan of the Philippines.

We aim to strengthen the roots of the new generation of Luga children... and their childrens' children, by establishing this virtual heritage site as their back board and hopefully, raise up their dignity as a Luga descendant.

Luga Heritage Restoration Project Part 6

This is how and what the House in Juna looks like now...

Luga Heritage Restoration Project - Part 5

For my personal ease... I normally don't write this word... Please excuse me for substituting MOSELEUM for MAUSOLEUM - the typo was not intentional...

I didn't pay attention in visiting the Luga Moseleum during my first days back in Davao. It is family tradition but it was already forgotten by many of the younger ones as well as the younger once.

For some reason... I was driving one very early morning on my way to an appointment and I had to pass by Marfori area... It was my first time to drive in these areas and I was driving normally as if I knew the roads... well, I did but it was only during day time, I am still unfamiliar about it.

So back to my story... As I drove... I got lost and I suddenly found myself in a very familiar spot during my childhood... I reached the end of the road of brokenshire cemetery... where the Luga Moseleum is.

Chills ran up my spine and I told myself... I promise to visit them next time when I have the time. So I went ahead to my schedule for the day. This was the day I went to Nabunturan and explored the Copper and Gold mines.

Weeks passed by and I have totally forgotten about the promise I made to my ancestors... Again, I had to drive pass this area once more due to another schedule... but this time it was already morning (unlike the first time when it was just before the dawn). It was a sunny morning... but to my surprise.... I drove my way straight towards the same road, I was really shocked!...

I drive instinctively and fast, this is what I got used to in Slalom Driving... but what happened is quite extraordinary.

So I decided to just go ahead and pay them a visit.

On my way there, a bystander asked me where I am going, I told him to my Grandfathers Moseleum... He said, wait, the caretaker will bring you there because she holds the key to the gates.

It felt like it was only yesterday when I was still a child... we used to have family reunions here during All souls day... our Moseleum had a Mezzanine floor (quite unusual for any moseleum; It's probably the only one in Davao... or the world - not sure), My Uncles would play Mahjong downstairs if I recall correctly, us children would be playing in the grassy lawn outside or play with melted candles. I have always thought this place was much larger then... now, It seems smaller... but nothing has changed... except for the deterioration of the paint and accumulation of dirt, moss and some plants on the walls of the building.

The last time I saw this was 1976... there were only 2 tombs then... My Grandfather and Mariano... but I am not sure if the tomb tablets of my great Grand Parents were already there that time...

I remember we would burn grass and the children would hop over it... before we leave the place.

I forgot doing that this time... since I didn't have a lighter with me since I don't smoke. However, I was able to have 5 candles lit... courtesy of the caretaker.

Seeing the neglect of this place, broke my heart again.

If you notice... The Dutertes Moseleum is also our neighbor... just a lot away. This particular spot is the prime spot in the cemetery... it's specially for the Elites of Davao City that time... still is anyway. The only difference of our spot is... everyone neglected it. The Adsministrator should be the one taking care of it... his son holding a high position in the electric company, should keep this spot with electricity... it used to have... as well as water since it has it's own toilet and bathroom as well. But I am not sure it there is still water, however, I saw some clothes hanging on a cloth line up the mezzanine.

People die... but Relationships do not.

I see no reason why it should.

Juna House - Evidence of Heritage Ellimination Plan

The House in Juna is the first house of Quirico, it was later lived into by the Roscom family, Danny Roscom married to Milagros Luga - the first daughter of Quirico. Improvements were made by Danny, like the paved driveway, swimming pool, expanded living space, etc to name a few.

It has about 1,000 sq. meters in lot area size.

Since the time of Alberta Villareal Lugas death, half of the house was given of Thomas Quijano by virtue of Dacio en Pago.. as payment for his 7 years of work without pay. This half is Albertas' ownership of the house.  Some rights to this house were sold to Thomas also.  There are still a few rights not sold to him. But he is mainly interested in keeping the place in tact.

I have came across some disturbing documents clearly showing proof of Desiderio Lugas aim to totally eliminate Quirico Lugas Legacy in this earth.

The idea was to sell the remaining rights or portions of Quiricos' half to Victoriano Tan. Tan paid a visit in this house one time, but after seeing Thomas, Tan backed out.  The same Tan who bought and destroyed the Bangoy heritage house.

Herewith are the documents I have discovered:

These papers clearly show that Desiderio has literally took full advantage of the SPA given to him by Milagros.

Now comes the questions:

  1. If Milagros values this house, then why would she allow this sale?
  2. Does Milagros know about this sale?
  3. It is stated that there is a need to sell... What is the nature of this need?
The selling of the rights of some of the heirs to Thomas Quijano was justified simply because most of the younger heirs were not receiving subsidy from the supposedly Administrator of the family intestate. For example; when Maria Christina "Ria" sold her rights on this property to Quijano, it was because she was totally broke financially, after she was literally pushed out of their own house literally speaking. Initially from Bangoy, then afterwards from the Gomez corner Roxas Blvd. Properties. She was left to fend for herself and her baby without a husband. Selling her rights to the amount of only P10,000. was biting the bullet for the right reason.

Firstly, Thomas is also family, and would do nothing to destroy the house. The present deterioration is only due to non-maintenance... but nothing to do with destruction of property.

When Desiderio knew about this, he was angered and wanted to get his hands on this one as well. He was supposed to sell the ramaining rights or portions to Victoriano Tan, possibly the same buyer who bought and destroyed the Bangoy Mansion or maybe that was Henry Wee.

What Desiderio overlooked is - Thomas Quijano. It was by sheer luck or fate that when this buyer came to visit this place, Thomas was already inside the house... and discouraged Tan right there and then.

Thomas is willing to sell back to us his portions or rights on this property... but not to anybody who do not respect and value the legacy left behind by Quirico.

Go figure!

Who is Quirico Petalcorin Luga?

Quirico was born June 16, 1911 in Bohol. His father is Gregorio Luga and his mother is Anastacia Petalcorin.

The brothers are Maximino (Mimoy), Illuterio (Teryong), Braullio (Bulog), Quirico, Rustico (Tiko), ,  and an adopted sister... (Name is still being verified as I type) (the names are in random order).

The 5 brothers went to Davao in search of jobs and other income generating prospects. They have all married and settled here as well. (for verification)

Quirico finished 6th grade, it was already high education at that time. He was also a teacher and a Hospital Attendant. Being intelligent won him favors with Juan Villareal... brother of the House Speaker Villareal... from the Villareal clan of Capiz. He helped Juan Villareal win a case in court and in return, Juan offered him any one of his daughter to Quirico.

Quirico had the eyes for the younger Julia... but the older and more dominant Alberta was more aggressive in getting what she wants... they didn't have electricity back then, only oil lamps and most of the time, when dusk comes... it is really dark in the woods. (According to Aunty Bekky)

Eventually, Alberta and Quirico became a couple... but Julia was also secretly making private liaisons, specially during the time when Quirico is getting firewoods in the woods.

Soonafter, Milagros was born... she is the first born of Quirico, there were 4 to 5 other children born after Milagros... but they all died early or in still birth. between 1933 and 1940... there was an instance when Quirico became more intimate with Julia... of course, womens instinct is stronger... Alberta also strayed off had an affair with Braulio.... Quirico's affair with Julia resulted to Fidela.. I would say she is the first love child of Quirico... Albertas affair with Braulio also resulted to the birth of Desiderio... There were stories that Alberta had affairs with more men, some involved with Quiricos business, others not.... There were rumors that Ernesto was the son of a Doctor, Ricardo, Bernardo, Bekky, Rosanna, Martheus all have different fathers. I still have to get their birth certificates... but who cares?... Quirico treated all of his children fairly and equally regardless if they were his or not. He was a fair and extremely honest man... this is according to Danny Roscom, husband of Milagros.

Story to be updated and verified soon... (stay tuned)
